    The lighting in this Apollo 14 "lunar mission" scenery appears more authentic, possibly due to miniaturization. But hot spots are still evident in the scenes where the "astronauts" are "working."

    It is interesting (divine?) that mostly pure luck had these 3 guys in Deke’s rotation for this particular flight….esp after the 6-7 deaths and Mike’s/Al’s/medical issues that came in the 24 months prior, that caused the shuffling. Had Apollo 1 not caught fire, who knows if America lands there by 1969. and if Gus really would have been the one first. Perhaps a precursor flight success would have shuffled on him. Would have been great to get Deke and Kraft’s thoughts on if there could have been more purposely selection had another crew rotation come due…..Pete Conrad 1st Man….? Hmmm

    At about the 40 minute mark a camera just below the S-IV stage shows the Rl10-A3 engines. Upon staging, you can see what look like 'stools' that were beneath each nozzle? Were these part of the precooling process? Or some other reason? They certainly weren't structural in nature (I don't think)

    Man, you can tell that these guys are test pilots, astronauts, folks who know their job, and do it well -- not movie stars. Interviews like this remind you that they know every word they say will be scrutinized and reflect upon not only them, but the program, NASA, and every single person who's worked to get them this far. The eyes of the world were upon them on the precipice of a momentous achievement in human history, and you know what? They did pretty good under all that pressure.

    • @TOlds-gy4qn
      @TOlds-gy4qn 4 дня назад

      Hell yeah they did pretty good. None of these guys were selected for public speaking, can you imagine having to conduct this interview as a commercial pilot or Top Gun nominee. I always think how nervous I’d be if it were I that Nixon calls out of blue on lunar surface and you know that 300years from then, humans will be rewatching that recording. And not a single verbal stumble thru most entire mission.

    Thanks for finding, tidying up and uploading this. Buzz’s responses were the kind I was thinking myself as the questions were being asked - especially about future missions. Mike was just being Mike and blew off the “forgotten man” comment, which was class. Interesting to see Jules Bergman wasn’t one of those asking questions here. He always seemed to me to be the negative one of the TV press. “Springs” on the LEM would have been funny - which is likely why Buzz laughed.

    Based on the books I have read and many other videos like this, Mike was the glib one of the the three. You can tell by Neil's and Buzz's responses the precision they are articulating, and the matter of factness and confidence in NASA, the technology and themselves. They are true heroes with nerves of steel. Every man that sat atop any of the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo rockets were literally living on the edge until they splashed down.
